1. Linearizing $\frac{e^{-3x}}{\sqrt{1+x}}$ near $0$
  Rewrite the quotient as $e^{-3x}(1+x)^{-1/2}$ , substitute $1 - 3x$ and $1 - \frac{1}{2}x$ , multiply out, and reach $1 - \frac{7}{2}x$ .
2. Discarding every quadratic term
  Record which quadratic terms the two substitutions already discarded, and state the rule that the product's $\frac{3}{2}x^2$ and all higher terms are dropped with them.
3. Agreement with $f(0) + f'(0)x$
  Check $f(0) + f'(0)x$ , read off $f'(0) = -\frac{7}{2}$ with no product rule, and note that differentiating then setting $x = 0$ removes the higher-order terms automatically.
4. Time dilation for a GPS satellite
  Write $T' = T(1 - u)^{-1/2}$ with $u = \frac{v^2}{c^2}$ , derive $T' \approx T(1 + \frac{1}{2}\frac{v^2}{c^2})$ , and estimate $u \approx 10^{-10}$ for $v = 4$ km/s.
