Survey evidence on payback, IRR and NPV
Record the Ross–Westerfield–Jordan figures (payback 80.3%, IRR 65.5%, NPV 67.6%), the 1959-to-1981 shift from payback to IRR, and the 2022 Duke CFO figures (NPV 77%, IRR 75%, payback 64%).

Describe competitive response as competitors reacting to your investment, so forecasts cannot take everything as given, and capital rationing as a budget limit, using the three-year $100 million budget as the example.
The six capital budgeting rules
List NPV (or APV) for accepting and choosing projects, interactions evaluated separately, after-tax cash flows, CAPM discount rates from the project beta, risk that changes over time, and the alternative rules as secondary inputs.
What the financial lens leaves out
Record that the analysis covers only economic and financial considerations, and list the political, social, cultural and implementation factors a project decision must also bring together.
